Enroute to Mag bay, I had the 3am – 6am watch and for the first time struggled to keep my eyes open the last hour. So I stood in the doorway with the cooler breeze and listened to podcasts. Jack got up about 6:30am and after switching engines, I handed things over to him so I could grab another hour of sleep. Once up, we put out the fishing lines, hoping for a tuna. Conditions were mellowing and it was an easy day at sea. Not much to tell, just making miles towards Mag bay. We worked into our night shifts to the drown of the engine, sadly very little sailing this trip south but at least we weren’t miserable…
As morning approached on day two we me the approach to Mag bay. The weather forecast comes at 5am before the 6:30ish sunrise (we were waiting for the sun to enter Mag bay), so I downloaded the weather and was dismayed to see that wind was going to arrive a day earlier than yesterday’s forecast predicted. Huh, what to do. Jack had already expressed an interest in skipping Mag bay, so when Vicki came up we discussed the weather and pulled the plug on the stop. We turned right and headed for Cabo Falso. The main and jib were raised but with not enough wind, they helped but did not sustain our progress towards Cabo. Jack was all about the fishing again and after a few tiny bonitas, I pulled in a reasonable sized one and this one we kept. All cleaned up, we decided to stop fishing and just enjoy the calm conditions. The miles clicked off and there wasn’t much of note other than the wind died and the sails had to be dosed. Everyone had poor sleep the night before so the theme for the day was continuing our night watch schedule to allow everyone naps and rest breaks in their cabin.
The evening rolled around and we settled in for a mellow final night at sea. I was on the 9pm to midnight shift and feeling pretty good no problems staying awake like last night. Of course as the sun began to rise, here came the barrage of fishing boats. They could care less about us, sending large wakes and rolling us all around. Some forced us to change course. Great guys. Oh well, soon enough we slowed down to sightsee the back side of the famous Cabo arch. Drifting around to the other side of the arch for a few pictures before we peeled off and pointed towards our anchoring spot. At 9:15am the anchor was down and life was good.
