Hiding from overnight winds

Wind on our nose and no fish biting our lines was the theme for the trip to Candeleros Chico. On the way I pulled up the weather and was disappointed to see wind gust up to 25 knots overnight from the west. Figuring the anchorage would be a no go, we still pulled in to take a look and quickly affirmed our decision that this would not be a safe harbor for the night. Jack is hopeful we can bring his wife her since it is a gorgeous tiny bay with high surrounding peaks and a small window out to the ocean.

Final decision made, we went a few more miles around to Cadeleros. A large bay that would be a safe spot with plenty of room. I made my swim to check the anchor and used the opportunity to check the depth sensor. We ran a line down to the bottom of the sea and took a measurement to the waterline of the boat. It was odd to find that the depth gauge was set to read zero at a spot when the boat would be about two feet under water. Normally it is either set to read zero when the bottom of the keel touches bottom (how we reset it) or set to the true water depth. Whelp it is correct now.

The afternoon included a great nap for me followed by a shellacking by Jack in every card game we play. He is a shark. Vicki cooked up a fabulous chicken, mushroom, spinach with mashed potatoes dinner for us while I filled up the fuel tanks from our jerry cans. A few episodes of Big Bang Theory and I was ready for sleep. The wind did arrive as forecast but other than some noise it was uneventful – thankfully.
