Thanksgiving at Isla Coronado

It was a mellow motorsail south with a larger than expected swell of 5-6 feet at 4 seconds. The screecher helped us along and made it an easy passage that allowed for water making and to get some charge into the batteries. Oh, and to empty the nearly full holding tanks – whew that was very needed.

Being Thanksgiving, cooking was in order once life settled down in the anchorage. Vicki went to work on a pseudo pumpkin pie and once she was done I jumped on to doing the traditional spread. It was amazing to have Isla Coronado all to ourselves – something I have never seen before. It a super calm evening and we had a wonderful dinner following which we shared our top five things we were thankful for (a Strikhedonia Thanksgiving tradition). Some pie and then it was on to some Mexican train. Guess who the big winner was, this guy!

The next morning, still all alone in the anchorage, we dinghied to shore for a hike to the top of the volcano. It was better marked than in the past and a bit cooler too – all much appreciated. There was still huffing, puffing, and sweating but it was all good. The view made the climb worth it and we could see the wind was already increasing, making cool patterns in the sea. With plans to move on to Vee cove we didn’t hang out long on the summit but Jean did enjoy a bar as we cooled in the nice breeze. The hike down was a quick one, made more so by Vicki getting a head start on us. I was relieve to see her periodically and we worked hard to catch up to her. We reached her just before the area of lava crossing and finished off the last half of the hike together. Back on the beach, without much of a break we headed back to Strikhedonia to get underway.
