I have passed Timbabiche a bunch of times, but I’m so glad I made the stop and explored the area a bit. This is a popular fishing spot with a half dozen boats out each day. It is also the spot where a former lucky pearl fisherman found a 5 karat pearl and used the proceeds to build a large home (“Casa Grande” also known as The Pink House) and to buy a fleet of fishing boats. This was back in the 1920’s and over the years it fell into dismay and was scavenged for building supplies. The shell still exists but how I wish I could have seen it in its heyday.
I took the beach around to the dirt road, that I followed to “town” to explore The Pink House. On the trip back I got smart and decided to take the beach instead of the road. Whelp, that meant wading through thigh deep water in one of the estuaries along this bay. At the other end of the beach was a larger estuary and a nice hill to hike up. All told I squeezed out a 5km hike, leaving me hot and sweaty at the end, and ready for a swim to cool off.
Work far from completed, I tore into the starboard holding tank. It quickly became apparent that the massive amount of calcification inside would make cleaning while installed difficult. So I removed the tank and worked on it on the bow. It was three hours of pure joy. I jest, I fucking hate head (toilet)/holding tank projects. In the end, it was sparkling clean. I dropped it in place but left the reconnect for another day.
In the middle of all of this, some fisherman stopped by with a large lobster for sale. It was massive and I couldn’t turn it down. So dinner plans were changed. Let me tell you, my lobster bowl turned out amazing with so much lobster meat that I saved enough for a lunch later in the week.
