I have the hikes I like to do at each anchorage and the hill overlooking the entrance to Agua Verde is a short but fun one. The rock climb up to the top at the end is skipped by most due to the risk of falling but not by this guy. Truth be told, it was sketcher than I remembered and it took a bit of route finding to figure out the safest path. Inspiring views seen it was back aboard and moving.
It started as a motoring trip, then a motor-sailing trip, and for the last little bit a sailing trip. My plan was to anchor in front of the restaurant Vista al Mar (“The Clam Shack”) but a mile out with decent sized rollers behind me I decided maybe the dinghy would be a better option. So a tight turn into Juncalito was made to park the boat in the calm, wind protected anchorage. I dropped the dinghy and motored the 3nm to the restaurant. During the trip I was questioning my plan as it was pretty rough going downwind and heading back would be a bash. Huh. Oh well, an excellent clam dinner with a limonada mineral took my mind off the return trip. My belly full, it was time to pay the piper, thankfully things had settled down a bit, and it wasn’t terrible but I did get a good core workout bracing myself with my legs against the inside of the boat.
Since the dinghy was down I decided to explore the beach in front of Strikhedonia. There were a handful of campers setup and enjoying the evening. Walking to the end of the beach I stumbled on a sign showing that there was a trail that would reach an overlook into the Puerto Escondido mooring field. Well that is pretty cool. Even though I had already had a long day, I couldn’t resist. The sign claimed it was an hour hike but only 700 meters. That seemed like a silly number and sure enough less than 10 minutes later I was checking out the half full mooring field. I’m glad I made the hike but probably not worth doing again. The dinghy was still there on my return and just before dark I was back aboard to get some sleep, tomorrow would be a full day…
