It was disappointing to see the bottom of the door frame with rust in the corner. Thinking it was just a small bit of damage that I could fix before it got worse was wishful thinking. Digging in I found the frame was totally rusted out. I had stainless replacement parts built and installed them. This was a much bigger job that I initially thought and I would not recommend doing the fix that I did due to the cost, time required, and age of my refrigerator. Total I spend about about $300 on this repair.
Seeing the extent of the damage
Holy $$$$, that is not good at all.
Rust converter applied to hold it together until I had parts fabricated
Temporarily put back together
Removed frame showing rust across the bottom, the rust converter paint did well keeping it together for a few months
Nastiness before sanding and preparing the bottom of the refrigerator for the new frame
Frame removed and the surface prepared for gluing the stainless frame
Top of the refrigerator with metal cutouts where the new hardware protrudes downward
I bonded the screws to the top of the frame with JB Weld
Test fitting the parts
Frame installed and edging tape removed, waiting for adhesive to cure
