What is a stop at Isla Coronado without a volcano hike?

It being a Saturday and the crowds that brings, this was just a one night stopover. But I needed to get the volcano hike in, so just after sunrise I was in the dinghy to shore. I made quick work out of the hike hustling up. Reaching the top I took a few minutes for a rest and a snack before restlessness came over me and I decided to circle the caldron for the first time. The various peaks on the north side all required working out my ankles on the loose, sharp, irregular shaped rocks. Thankfully no rattlesnakes were seen and some new views were enjoyed.

Getting back down to the beach I was surprised to see that the climb wasn’t much longer that the decent. Huh, guess the loose volcanic shale keeps the speed down both ways. A shower and some downtime was next while I waited for the winds to come up. Around 11am I was headed north, on the departure I had one more chance to change course around the mega yacht guess out kayaking…
