The interior fan on my fridge had been making a surging noise for a few weeks. Spin fast, then almost stop, repeat endlessly at about a two second cycle. I could find nothing online, so I carefully probed around to figure out how to disassemble the interior mechanics. Turns out it is super simple…

Step 1 - Carefully remove the white plastic plugs covering the top two holes with diagonal cutters and then remove all four of the screws holding the aluminum cover to the refrigerator
After cleaning, my fan was running smoothly again. Reassemble in the reverse order, however be very careful the four screws strip easily.
Replacement fan information:
Manufacturer: Costech
Part Number: D09A04LWS ZQ19
Power: 12Vdc 0.13A
Note: I found many of these fans online but most (with the same part number) were marked at 0.25A. I do not know if that is a problem with the controller or if the 0.13A MUST be used.
