Arriving in Muertos, the first order of business was washing the boat and getting all of the Boobie shit off the bow. It was warming up quickly and I hustled in my tired state to get things looking good again – let me say not having to worry about using a lot of water is such a game changer. Back in the day before my big watermaker I would use as little as possible and save a big cleaning for arrival in Puerto Escondido (back when you could tie to the dock and use water for an hour). Work done, and food and a beer consumed, my eyes grew heavy and I went down for a nap.
My game plan had been to take a few days of wing foiling lessons with the instructor that Alison and Allan used this winter. I sent off an email and was disappointed to hear back that the season was over (ended March 31st). Whelp, change of plans. With some wind coming, I decided to make the most of the day by heading to the beach restaurant, 1535. Shrinkflation took effect here too, with the margarita moving from a huge goblet down to a simple small glass. Blerg. The chile relleno however was excellent, with guac, beans, and rice on the side. It was an enjoyable visit but ouch did it hurt the pocket book coming in at $29 usd (yes you read that correctly, for one margarita and one chile relleno).
Back in Mazatlan, I had commented on a post from SV Pendragon where they asked if anyone was crossing at the same time. While I was eating, they pulled into the anchorage so a stop on the way back to Strikhedonia was called for. It wasn’t a minute into the conversation before Scott asked if I was friends with Vicki. What the what! Turns out Vicki had been trying to connect with Scott and Jennifer (past sail racing teammates) in the fall while aboard Strikhedonia but weather and schedules did not align, much to Vicki’s disappointment. Well at least I managed to finally connect with them. We had an amazing chat and I was bummed to hear they were starting their bash back to California shortly, so we wouldn’t get a chance to hang out again this season. The sun below the horizon and their bellies rumbling, we said our “until next times” and I headed back for a very much needed night’s sleep!
