A Taste of Baja – Festival with wines from Valle de Guadalupe and local fresh seafood

While Papa’s and Beer is sadly what first pops into many American’s mind when thinking about food and drinks in Ensenada, those people are sadly missing a major shift that is taking place. There is a feeling in town that a critical mass has been reached, which has brought gastronomical and cultural events much like are found in their neighbors to the North.

The last two years I have attended Festival de las Conchas y el Vino Nuevo, a seafood and wine festival, at Coral Resort hosted by ProVino which is held the first weekend in April.

This year the event did sell out, so getting tickets early is a good idea. However, a fellow sailor did stand by the ticket table and find someone who had an extra. So you might have luck just showing up.

Mussels and Clams

Lots and lots of local wines!

Crab and Oysters

Seafood stew and Grilled fish

A great event to kick off spring and a chance to try out restaurants from the Baja. This year, chef Javier Plascencia made an appearance cooking a seafood inspired pasta dish. But hands down my favorite was the fish grilled fish. Sadly it didn’t last long before all stock on hand was depleted. Actually that was the case at all the best booths. So get there early…
