From front to back the whole plane was touched today

The ignition cables are now better organized with spacers between to ensure no cross firing. Got the screws installed in the tail fairing, which turned into more work than I expected. Well there were two nutplates involved… Before the window installed I needed to get the sunvisors mounted. With the doors on I could find the best location and then…

No more wires left

Overnight I realized I missed the wires for the doors unlatched switches, oops. Along with pulling a new Com1 antenna wire I finished off running the wires. I still have a bunch of terminations to do on the VPX but then I should be done. Fingers crossed the avionics works when I flip the switch. A fellow RV-10 builder has…

One of those days…

I came into the hanger this morning to find brake fluid under the fuselage. No bueno. Seems the tunnel brake fittings were not tightened, ugh. Shame on me for not double checking. My penance, 90 minutes of cleaning. Fluid leaked between ribs and skin, spar and skin, into every crack and crevice. Fuck me. Oh the day didn’t stop there.…

I suppose it was a productive day

Started off running the 8awg wire for the alternators, shunt, and ESS (essential bus). Lots of lugs to crimp and heat shrink to heat. Then closed off the firewall pass through. It was time to rivet up to forward cockpit. It took some serious contortion under the panel but I managed the bucking bar pretty well – of course a…

F**k there are a lot of wires

Yep, I said it. I finished up the back half of the plane wiring in the morning and then organized/zip tied/secured the cables. Then the fun began on the panel wiring. I already built the harness but with moving it from Minnesota, to setting it up and taking it down a couple times in the hanger (to finish the remaining…

Huh, that was a strange day

It started well, actually that is not true. I went to adjust a cable tray and damaged it. So it I guess it was the same start to finish. Oh well. What was accomplished? Mounted Transponder Mounted VPX electronic breakers Adjusted Aerosport panel Final epoxy/sanding on the carbon fiber before clearcoating Determined carpet and interior panels before painter comes tomorrow…

Plugging away on the electrical

Today was spent finishing the nutplates on the wings for the wing root fairings and then back to electrical work. All of the rear plane electrical was completed along with the antenna connectors. Then moving forward I added snap bushings and adel clamps to the 2AWG power cable and finished off the cable with the terminal to bolt it to…

More Wing Work???

Yep, there are some nutplates that I forgot I needed to add to the wings. So much of the day was spend drilling, dimpling, and riveting nutplates. Of course I learned why the plans have you install the fuel tank screen AFTER the nutplates are installed. Not huge but definitely added time on to this item. Also got the remainder…

Close to closing up the floors

Today started with bolting in the magnetometer which would have been easier had I had non-magnetic hardware when I riveted the bracket to the frame. Oh well. Then it was on to installing the three antenna doublers in the bottom skins. I attempted to bolt on the transponder antenna only to damage it from overtorquing the nut. Honestly I don’t…

Short hustle day

Started with crimping the BNC connectors for the ELT antenna and the COM2 antenna before moving back wheels. Oops, started the fuel tank pressure testing on the right side. Made Lee’s suggested plates on the wheel pants bracket and got them glued on. Tomorrow I will add some rivets and then do the final assembly of the mains. Then it…
