Decommissioning for Hurricane Season Checklist and Time Estimate

Whew, shutting down the boat was a significant block of work.  Guaymas is a working port, no doubt about that, and between the seafood processing and industry there are a lot of smells and particulates in the air.  I won’t say it was miserable but it was uncomfortable.  But let me back up…

Pulling into Guaymas harbor

We pulled into Bahia Catalina just outside of the Guaymas harbor as the sun came up.  It gave us a chance to rest, eat, and get a quick swim (well aquajog for Jean).  After our recovery time from the overnight passage I called up the Fonatur marina.  They have still not recovered from last years hurricane but even with the limited dock space squeezed us in for three nights.

Fonatur Dock (notice damaged sections still in the water)

This turned out to be a key break, as we had water, breeze, and good access to land.  Mornings started early before the heat brought down our energy levels, by 1:00pm it was siesta time.  Monday morning we puttered over to Marina Seca Guaymas where we were hauled out by the neighboring yard (we are too wide for Gabriel’s lift).  After getting Strikhedonia blocked it was back to work, quickly getting foil up on the saloon windows to block some of the sun’s energy.  Tuesday morning and into afternoon we finished off our punch list around 3:00pm.
