Huh, that was a strange day

It started well, actually that is not true. I went to adjust a cable tray and damaged it. So it I guess it was the same start to finish. Oh well. What was accomplished? Mounted Transponder Mounted VPX electronic breakers Adjusted Aerosport panel Final epoxy/sanding on the carbon fiber before clearcoating Determined carpet and interior panels before painter comes tomorrow…

Plugging away on the electrical

Today was spent finishing the nutplates on the wings for the wing root fairings and then back to electrical work. All of the rear plane electrical was completed along with the antenna connectors. Then moving forward I added snap bushings and adel clamps to the 2AWG power cable and finished off the cable with the terminal to bolt it to…

More Wing Work???

Yep, there are some nutplates that I forgot I needed to add to the wings. So much of the day was spend drilling, dimpling, and riveting nutplates. Of course I learned why the plans have you install the fuel tank screen AFTER the nutplates are installed. Not huge but definitely added time on to this item. Also got the remainder…

Let the grinding begin, ugh

Today marked the start of the cabin top installation. Which meant lots of cutting/grinding and being covered in fiberglass dust. But at least it was a warm day for late November. Also today I mounted the pitch trim servo and crimped/attached the connectors.

Let the electrical install commence

Today was a bit of jumping around. I got a number of the wires pulled through the airframe, mounted the magnometer bracket, got the static ports ProSealed. A big chunk of the day was spent on getting the wheels mounted. The Matco wheels/brakes was pretty straight forward to figure out the order of installation, wheels on the axles the next…

Just a bit of progress and a lot of parts ordering

A big chunk of this week has been spent ordering electrical connectors and hardware. For me a painstaking process to determining what is needed, documenting it, and ordering it. It wasn’t only buying fun, I had four packages with items to return too. I’d much rather be building. I did manage to get a couple things accomplished today, the correct…

Looking more like an airplane

Today a few more items were banged out. Got the first tail section top skin riveted on, drew up on CAD the revised battery box and COMM antenna doubler. Ordered those to be fabricated along with another Left Upper Panel piece, which needed to be updated since I switched from Lightspeed to dual P-Mags. Fingured out a bunch of connectors…

More Vertical Stabilizer fun before an exciting end of the day.

Finished up the deburring of the holes, counter sinking spar holes, cleaning the parts, and finally priming them. Cue the riveting, today I seemed to not have my head on straight. Half the rivets had to be drilled out either due to incorrect assembly or crappy rivet setting. Ugh, one of those day. But I did get the rear spar…

Almost forgot something important

Laying in bed last night what pops into my mind but that I forgot to pull the wire through the wings for my extended range fuel tank pumps. Ugh, that could have been a pain. So guess what I started my day doing… Reading through the instructions and reviewing the excellent builders log by Robert Lussow I decided the tanks…

Wire up those wings!

With the tail is good shape, my plan had been to bang out the Vertical Stabilizer but plans changes… Instead I ran the wires through the wings, mounted the Garmin Pitot tube regulator, and wired the Autopilot Roll servo connector. I got the cutouts finished for the rear air vents too. A productive day and now the wings are ready…

More electrical and priming day

One of those days where you leave scratching your head because you put the hours in but it doesn’t feel like a lot of progress. Oh well. Worked on the ignition wiring and long wire runs from the panel to the rear avionics tray. Finished up the day priming rudder parts, fingers crossed tomorrow I will have a completed rudder.

Back to Avionics Wiring

I ran out of time in Minnesota to get all the wiring of the panel finished. Today I knocked off the avionics wiring and ELT. There were of course the occasional brain slip that required rework but I still walked away feeling good about the progress.
